Who joins Rotary?
Becoming
a Rotarian
Rotary is an
association of nearly 36,000 autonomous service clubs in 200 countries,
Rotary International is one of the world's largest service organizations with approximately 1.4 million members.
The goal for a club's membership is an up-to-date and progressive
representation of the community's business, vocational, and professional
interests.
An
important distinction between Rotary and other organizations is
that membership in Rotary is by invitation. Rotary clubs invite
individuals to join and become members. Membership is vital to a
Rotary club's operations and community service activities.
A
primary goal of the club is to continually expand with committed
members who have the interest and ability to get involved in service
and humanitarian projects particulaly for the Rotorua and New Zealand communities.
Responsibilities
of Membership
Rotary
club membership carries with it certain responsibilities. Rotarians are expected to have high ethical values, be representative of the communities professions, businesses, or other worthwhile vocations. Members
are expected to attend weekly meetings of the club at least twice per month.
We have an annual subscription which supports the administration of the club as well as district and international capitation fees. Fundraising projects provide the funds for donations to a range of charitable entities. Members are expected to participate
in such activities or projects of the Rotary club.
Clubs also encourage members to aspire to leadership roles
within their club.
The
membership process
Usually
a person being considered for membership at Rotorua West is invited
by to attend one or more of our club meetings to
learn more about Rotary and meet some of our members. The sponsor
may then submit the name of the candidate to our club's membership
committee.
Anyone
interested in joining but doesn't know any
Rotarians at Rotorua West is welcome to
contact our club directly. We would love to meet you. (See Contact page).
Rotorua West is a traditional, busy club that meets weekly for dinner and fellowship usually with a guest speaker. Among many activities we raise tens of thousands of dollars annually for our Rotorua communtiy and have a lot of fun doing so.
